What is a Reduction Linocut Print?
This piece was made using a reduction linocut method - a special printmaking technique where a single block of linoleum is carved and printed in layers, one color at a time. After each color is printed, more of the block is carved away (reduced), making it impossible to go back. This means the entire edition is printed in stages, and once it's done, no more can ever be made from the block.
Every layer is hand-printed with care, and small shifts and textures from the printing process make each piece in the edition unique. It's a slow and thoughtful method, perfect for capturing the essence of wild places, subtle nuances, and the magic I find in the natural world.
Each print is 8 13/16 " by 12" in size.
